The Earth is flat...or not, is not the question...

There was a time when "whether the Earth is flat or not" became the hottest topic of the town.

I, myself, was extremely intrigued by the statement the very first time I came across it.

Where almost everyone condemned those who think that the Earth was flat were morons, I was, on the contrary, a bit excited that finally, a genius might had emerged to prove how stupid we were.

The point is, when we bring up our children, we tell them what is right and what is wrong.

Many parents have the opinion that it takes too much time and effort to explain all the "whys" their children are throwing at them.

Hence, as a result, we do not educate and teach them why is something right or wrong.

Kids nowadays look at their phones in their hands all the time, even while waiting at the pedestrian crossing lights.

So when the light turns green and beeps, they just started crossing the road without checking their surroundings.

It doesn't really matter when a car stops at a green light, but you will not get away harmless if a car doesn't stop at a red light.

Obeying the laws and traffic rules is one thing, but looking after yourself is the ultimate goal here.

If my children were to tell me one day that the Earth is flat, I am very sure that I will ask them why would they think so? And if so, how can they prove that the Earth is flat?

As an educator, we should not ridicule young minds and limit their curious minds, belittling them.

The same goes to the fact that you don't teach your children how to succeed in their lives, by asking them to become doctors and lawyers.

You teach them to make the right decisions along their lives, and they can never go wrong, no matter what their professions are.

So, at the end of the day, does 1 + 1 = 2?

The answer doesn't have to be 2, if the person asking the question is a young child.

If you ask nicely or promise a lolly in exchange for the answer, who knows, you might learn a thing or two.

贵人,幸福,快乐

想要遇到贵人,就先把自己变成贵人;

想要幸福,就先把幸福带给周边的人;

想要快乐,就先把快乐留给其他人。

人,除了会辨善恶,也要知因果。

Making Mistakes Is How We Learn And Grow

 Everyone makes mistakes.

It has been like this since as far back as human history can be traced, and it will be like this going into the future.

Making mistakes is part of us.

We can't be perfect in an imperfect world.

You just have to choose between one of the two types of people:

those who learn from their mistakes, or

those who try to justify their mistakes.

Happiness

I was watching "The Middle" on TV and from one of the episodes about the small doll house dining table that Frankie bought, thinking that it was a real life size one, it struck me then and there, what happiness means.

Happiness is when you stop trying to look for happiness.

To put it in other words, there are greater powers at play out there or up there in the entire universe.

When everything goes against your way at times, you should just look down, see what you have in your hands, do what you need to do, and soldier on for the storm to pass.

There will always going to be high tides and low tides in anyone's life. When it is the low tides, don't fight it. You are just going to waste your time and energy. Instead, go along with it, and then come back harder when the high tides come along. You have to go with the flow and learn to ride on it.

It is not about persevering for your entire life. It is about learning your strength and weakness, and doing the right thing at the right time.

And to put it even simpler, you need to learn to understand yourself.

I wish you well in your future, and I hope you can savour ever moment of your life, both ups and downs.

With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibilities

When you teach someone to build something, you would like them to have the ability to build that particular item when the old one breaks or get destroyed.
You want the skill to be passed on.
However, at the same time, when you have passed on the skill, that particular item no longer holds the same value to your protégé as compared to the time before they possess the knowledge to build the item.
The reason being, they can simply build another item for replacement easily.
It is not the case every time, but sometimes, the ability to create diminishes the value of possession.
When you earn enough money to not have to worry about the amount of money that you have, does money still hold the same value to you as before?

Money corrupts men.

This is one statement that I do not intend to disprove.
Earning money is easier than not spending the money that you have earned.
When you earn too much, just stop and have a look around yourself and lend a hand to the people around you.
If you think that there is no people around you that needed your help, I don't think you have really looked at all.
